Pledge to make a difference, together.
Youth Empowering Parents (YEP) in an idea that was inspired by a natural phenomenon that exists within many newcomer families where youth and children help their parents integrate into Canadian society by teaching them basic skills such as computers and language. The aim of YEP is to transfer this youth-parent dynamic – the level of comfort, the similar language, and the one-on-one teaching – into a classroom where it can be formalized and built upon. Rather than a traditional classroom with an instructor, YEP trains youth with the skills to act as effective service providers by tutoring adults in their community in the basics of English and computer skills.
Since YEP began in 2010, youth have contributed over 10,000 volunteer hours into their own neighbourhoods.
