The IRENE ODV Association is the association of brain tumor patients and their families, which aims to protect the quality of life of people affected by this disease and help their families to deal with health, social and psychological problems that this pathology entails.
Brain tumors are a rare disease that affects about eight people out of 100,000 inhabitants every year in our country. Approximately 5,000 thousand people, therefore, are diagnosed in Italy with a brain tumor every year and are predominantly young (the median incidence is around 50 years of age) who have to face the important repercussions that the disease has on their working, social and family life.
The aim of the Association is to support people who have been diagnosed with brain tumors and their families, to ensure quality of life, access to treatment and the protection of their rights. All this through the promotion of information on brain tumors and support for the home care service for neuro-oncological patients of the Regina Elena Institute and the neuro-oncology service of the Bambino Gesu Pediatric Hospital in Rome through the provision of services social and health care for neuro-oncological patients and raising funds to improve the quality of care for patients.
The IRENE Association: offers personal assistance services for families in difficulty; offers home rehabilitation services (in particular neurorehabilitation and speech therapy); promotes information on brain tumors and on the rights of cancer patients; promotes meetings between patients and families with the aim of promoting the dissemination of information among patients; promotes information for patients and their families on patients' rights, therapies and social-health aspects also through the website www.associazioneirene.it; contributes to the training of medical and paramedical personnel on neuro-oncology and psycho-oncology issues (scholarships, updates);
All IRENE OdV activities are totally free and are based on the work of volunteers and the generosity of patients, their families and friends to support already active projects and to achieve new goals.
